At the end of summer, all the heat that we get exposed to is stored up. That’s why it becomes so important to clear out the doshas and excess heat at this time of year. It tends to stay silent during most of the month, then get unleashed right before menstruation, or especially during menopause.

- Increased amount of bleeding
- More cramps
- Less resilience to impatience & irritability
- Acne & skin problems
- Loose stool
- Excessive thirst
- Easily affected by vinegar, wine, spicy foods (these are all heating in nature)
- Stronger smelling body odor
- Faster greying and hair loss
- Fast increasing wrinkles
It’s worth repeating that sometimes these signs of heat aren’t obvious, but they get stored for future disruption, go dormant and become explosive at PMS or menopause for example.
What you do now affects how your dryness and periods will be in autumn (and actually all year), how your immunity will be in winter, and the aggravations like hay fever that show up in spring.
So for many women, it’s a critical time to follow at least a mild cleanse to reduce heat and dryness the end of summer. It sets you up for prevention of health problems, rather than a reaction to, which is always infinitely harder and more inconvenient.
